Jaipur day 2

So I meet up with one of the guys from the party of 6 and go to the post office so he can send a parcel that he has been lugging around for the past three weeks. To send a package they have to wrap your parcel in material where it is then sealed with wax. You then have to take it to a counter to pay. I must say that the Indian way of working is pretty laid back. First of all you don't know where you should go to queue and when you finally find the right place they take their sweet time to serve you. So we found the correct counter and the guy behind the desk takes the parcel and then starts doing everything but serve us. We watch him do lots of other things but help us and then about 15 mins later he reluctantly deals with us. Perhaps if we had 'tipped' him (aka bribed) he would have served us quicker. Basically if you are in a rush then perhaps you should... 'tip'.

Afterwards we take a cycle rickshaw to Ajmer Gate, part of the Pink City for 20 Rup which is like 30p for some guy to cycle us around for about 20 mins in the blazing heat.

We meet up with the rest of the group and end up haggling for an autorickshaw that will take all 7 of us to Nahargarh Fort or "Tiger Fort" so we can watch the sunset.

We all pile into an autorickshaw (which is rather cosy) and the driver takes us to the bottom of the fort where we then have to walk up a steep path for the rest of the way. After much huffing and puffing we get to the top and just mooch around before we go for coffee and get hounded by monkeys. I have to admit that I was too cheap to get my rabies shots before I left so definitely do not want monkeys anywhere near me! The owners of the cafe throw rocks at the monkeys and then give us a whopping great big stick to scare them off which I find quite funny. We then watch the sunset over the town.

It is Diwali, a major Hindu holiday. All the houses are lit up like Christmas and there are fireworks going off all over the place. We are all sat on my hotel rooftop terrace over looking the city when we see a HUGE fire develop literally 2 or 3 streets away from us. A whole building has caught on fire because of a firework and we can see more buildings catch on fire. It is intense and we watch it mesmerised as the buildings are burning down and fireworks are going off all over the city.

Watching a building burn down whilst eating dinner. Very weird.
