The amazing race thru SE Asia

Stuck on a boat in Laos, I was racing to get back to Bangkok so I could catch my flight to Bali in 4 days time......

Luang Prabang - Pak Beng - Huay Xai - Chiang Mai - Bangkok - Bali

Luang Pranbang to Pak Beng - 1 day/ 1 night

Pak Beng - Huay Xai - 1 day / 1 night

Huay Xai on the Laos border. The Laos immigration closes at 6pm. There are rumours that the hotels in Huay Xai pay the boats a commission to arrive at 6pm. We arrive at 6:10pm. Funny that.
Netty phones me, 'Where are you'?
'I'm stuck in Laos'
'What, but you should be in Bangkok by now'!
'Yes I should, shouldn't I'!

Spend night in a hotel with the coolest roof top terrace so we run around the streets rounding up other travellers and we drink beer and Laos Laos (whisky) and sing Bob Marley songs all night. Ya mon.

Huay Xai - Chiang Mai - 1 day

real early start and I sense there are a few hang overs amongst the other travellers. Not me of course cos I'm too sensible. Honest. We go to border control to 'check out' of Laos then get a boat across the river to 'check in' to Thailand.
5 hour bus to Chiang Mai, straight to train station, book ticket to Bangkok on the 12 hr sleeper train that leaves in an hours time.

Standing in Laos. The other side of the river is Thailand.

Chiang Mai - Bangkok - 1 night

12 hours on the sleeper train, which is incredibly comfortable. We get actual beds.

Sitting on my top bunk on the train.
My new Manchester BFF - Tamara and Andrew. We hadn't eaten for days when this picture was taken. We were starving and when we got to Bangkok we ran straight to Maccy D's, gorged ourselves and made ourselves feel sick!

Bangkok - Bali - arrive into Bangkok at 6 am and have an entire day to kill. See my friends Netty and Simon and say my tearful farewell. Also say bye to my 2 travelling companions / new friends for the last 2 weeks, who also happen to come from Didsbury, Manchester of all places.

Saying bye to my best mate Netty. It was a very sad moment.

Sleep over night at Bangkok airport...again, which also happens to be the coldest airport in the world!.. 6am flight to Bali.

Boy am I tired!

Story about this picture, which wont mean anything to anyone but 'you know' a select few ;-)
